Since many of KARAT’s members are from developing countries (e.g.: Caucasia, some of EU-neighborhood and Balkans countries) Gender and Development program is very important to the Coalition. Despite not being defined as a development organization since its establishment KARAT has been always focusing part of its activities on gender and development. One of the important element of KARAT’s activities implemented under this program is an opposition to the simplistic North-South, division often used in the context of development as this approach omits the significance of the gender and development issues present in Eastern Europe, Balkans and Central Asia. The Gender and Development Program intends to raise the awareness among diverse stakeholders about the development problems faced by women from CEE/CIS countries, it also aims to facilitate the use of EU neighborhood policy and EU gender equality standards as a tools to increase awareness on gender equality. Further it focuses on building bridges between women from South and East in alliances with the North, and strives to raise awareness/be involved in the campaigns on ethical consumption in relation to the working conditions of women in the South and East.

- Through their eyes, through ours. Raising public awareness about development problems faced by women from developing countries in the EU Eastern Neighbourhood, Balkans and Central Asia.
- Connect ! South East West Women for Development. Building Support in New Member States for Gender-sensitive and -responsive European Development Co-operation.
