Economic Justice

Economic Justice including social justice is particularly relevant to women from CEE/CIS due to the process of  socio-economic transformation which the region is continuously undergoing since the collapse of the centrally controlled economic system that began in 1989. Despite this fact a limited number of NGOs in our region focuses on the link between economy and gender justice. The Economic Justice program has aimed at increasing the knowledge of KARAT members and partners  about the gender impact of economic and social reforms/policies to advocate and lobby for improvement of women’s economic and social status. Within this program KARAT has build capacity of its members and partners as well as other stakeholders focusing on gender justice by introducing a sub-program on Economic Literacy from gender perspective. As part of this sub-program the Coalition has been implementing trainings, produced manual and various publications,  has conducted research and analysis (e.g. focusing on women’s status in the labour market and their working conditions), has monitored working conditions in different industries using international mechanisms (e.g. ILO conventions, Corporate Social Responsibility), has been involved in the campaigns and advocacy for the improvement of working conditions and in lobbing the different stakeholders including transnational corporations.
