2010 POLSKI RAPORT SOCIAL WATCH 2009 "Rozwój społeczny"
The annual report of the Polish Social Watch Coalition deals with the issue of social development. It elaborates on the understanding of social development, its goals and directions and evaluates government policies affecting disadvantaged and discriminated groups in Poland. The rights-based diagnosis of social development in Poland includes, among others, access to housing, health care, education, employment etc.
At a time of financial crisis the millions of women, who are employed in factories and workshops and make the clothes on sale in supermarkets, are paying for the profits of the gigantic global retailers such as Carrefour, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, and Walmart. This is the conclusion from the Clean Clothes Campaign report “Cashing In: Giant retailers, purchasing practices, and working conditions in the garment industry”. KARAT Coalition has prepared the Polish version of the report. It is now available both in electronic and in printed format.
The theme of the Polish Social Watch Report 2008 titled "Czas na prawa" is human rights. The report consists of three major parts. First, it includes thematic articles on human rights challenges in the global context. Those texts are reprints from the international Social Watch Report 2008. The main section however it titled "Human Rights in Poland". It includes 14 articles that deal with current human rights challenges in the country. The final part comprises reports on human rights in the countries of CEE/CIS region and countries to which Polish Development Aid is directed.
The report "Warunki pracy i respektowanie praw pracowniczych w supermarketach w Polsce z perspektywy równouprawnienia płci" is a legal analysis focusing on the labour rights protection system related to the forms and areas of violations of the labour rights of women employed in super/hypermarkets in Poland identified by the research conducted by KARAT in 2008. There are two main conclusions of the report. One is that the employers aim at maximization of profits at the costs of the employees and their rights, second one – that it is possible to protect employees of super/ hypermarkets from abuses using existing labour law regulations.
The report “Kobiety o pracy w supermarketach” is the summary of the research on working conditions in super/hypermarkets conducted in April and May 2008.
The research gave an updated information about the super/hypermarkets’ ways of acting that require a significant improvement, about the current situation, working conditions and forms of employees’ rights violations.
The "Bieg z przeszkodami – w stronę wyższych płac i lepszych warunków pracy przy produkcji artykułów sportowych" is a Polish version of the report published by international PlayFair2008 campaign for improvement of working conditions in sportswear industry. The campaign was run on the occasion of Beijing Olympics in 2008. The report presents the main problems related to labour rights obedience in sportswear factories, provides facts illustrating the roots of these problems (which are closely related to the structures and pattern of functioning global sportswear industry as a whole), and finally, recommends the solutions. Publication focuses on the main sportswear brands which control the whole industry. These brands are also addressees of the final recommendations.

The report „Gender aspects. Production of next – generation electronics in Poland” emphasises the need to monitor the working conditions and the environmental impacts of this expanding new sector in Poland. While new jobs and new investment for Poland are both desirable, we need to make sure that workers are treated fairly and not exploited.
"Fair Play- always in fashion! Consumers’ awareness and working conditions of women in sporting goods industry"presents the results of research and interviews with employees of Polish factories supplying sporting goods industry, Polish sportswear producers and consumers. Publication illustrates the situation of Polish sportswear industry as a whole and the working conditions of women in this branch, in particular. For the first time in Poland the report provides the results of the research on awareness of Polish consumers on the social costs of sportswear production, their motivations for purchasing and their approach to consumers campaigns for better working conditions in garment industry.
The report “To the Farthest Frontiers: Women’s Empowerment in an Expanding Europe” is a joint effort of Eurostep and Social Watch, together with WIDE and KARAT. The study provides an analysis of the internal and external dimension of the EU’s gender policy with a view to relate the findings to the reviews of the implementation of Beijing Platform for Action and the Millennium Declaration. The overall conclusion is that there is a very significant gap between legal commitments made and the implementation. What is very relevant for the readers of KARAT News the report looks at the promotion of gender equality in the EU's assistance to Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
