We are calling for female endings of the professions’ names
On 19 October 2017 Karat Coalition and the Polish Teachers’ Union (ZNP) sent the letters to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy and the Ministry of Education calling for including the female grammatical forms in the names of professions. Karat’s research shows that the lack of female forms aggravates stereotypes about occupations “suitable” for women and men.
Polish language lessons for women migrants
From 12 September to 15 December 2017 the women migrants have participated in Polish language classes in Warsaw. Two groups of women migrants learn Polish at A2 / B1 level. The advanced language course focuses not only on grammar, but also on vocabulary related to employment and everyday life in Poland. We pay great attention to the issues of cultural differences and women’s rights in Poland and in other countries. The classes take place withing the project “Women’s Empowerment, Integration and Participation”.
Karat in the feminist dialogue on women migrants in Europe
14-15th of October 2017 we were in Vienna at a meeting of partner organizations in the project “The Europe we want? Feminist approaches to gender, migration and democracy “(Erasmus +). The participants from Austria, Spain, Belgium, Sweden and Poland (Karat Coalition) shared their experiences in working with organizations and networks of women migrants.
The success of the “Save the Women 2017” initiative
On September 19 the “Save the Women 2017” Committee has announced that it has already collected the required 100 000 signatures. It means that the civic bill on Women’s Rights and Conscious Parenting can be submitted to be discussed and voted by the Polish Parliament. The civic bill on Women’s Rights and Conscious Parenting restores women’s dignity and provides a sense of security.
