Women’s Empowerment, Integration and Participation The international initiative “Women’s Empowerment, Integration and Participation” arose from the need to attract attention to gender as an important premise of discrimination against migrants and refugees in Europe. In Poland, as part of the project, we support psychologically, legally and professionally women in the integration and employment process. We want to make it easier for women migrants and refugees to access services offered by the state and show how they can use the opportunities offered by the labor market in their new country.

Preventing discrimination in the regions of Poland On 6 April 2016, a final conference of a two-year-project “Counteracting discrimination in the regions of Poland” took place in Warsaw. The event was opened by a representative of KARAT Coalition and Minister Wojciech Kaczmarczyk, Government Plenipotentiary for Civil Society and Equal Treatment. The event was a good opportunity to learn the standards of counteracting discrimination and examples of good practices in the voivodship offices. The representative of the Norwegian organization “KUN -Center for Gender Equality” talked about the standards and good practices to counteract discrimination in Norway.

Advancing gender equality in Belarus Advancing gender equality in Belarus On 28-29 April 2014 a strategic meeting of eight women’s rights defenders from Belarus with the experts on the women’s rights from Croatia, Germany and Poland took place in Warsaw. The meeting concerned the Belarusian draft law on equality between women and men. Experts shared experiences from their own countries regarding the formulation of such a law, lobbying for it and implementing it in the specific areas of social and political life. The participants from Belarus got to know the provisions of the Croatian Act on Equality of Women and Men and learned how it works in practice.

15 years of Karat Coalition On January 31, 2013 a birthday party was held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Karat Coalition. Many distinguished guests came to the party. The event was accompanied by an exhibition of photos awarded in the competition “Through Their Eyes, Through Ours”. The birthday took place in the “Czułość” gallery in Saska Kępa.

Mobilization for legal protection of women’s rights in Belarus On April 18-21, 2013 ten women’s rights advocates from Belarus took part in a strategic training in Warsaw, Poland on legal protection of women from discrimination and domestic violence. The training was a response to the current challenges faced by the Belorussian women’s movement. It focused on raising the knowledge of participants about the essential elements that constitute a good law against gender-based discrimination and violence.

The photo exhibition: Through Their Eyes A photography exhibition “Through Their Eyes” consists of photographs addressing the socio – economic situation of women from Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The exhibition depicts the women’s lives greatly influenced by the stereotypes which prevail in the countries’ societies.
